Graycor Completes Amazon’s First Mass Timber Delivery Station in Indiana
Graycor Construction Company has completed a new 171,000-square-foot distribution center for Amazon, located at 2675 Aeroplex Drive in Elkhart, Indiana. Known as DII5, the facility marks Amazon’s first owner-occupied delivery station constructed with mass timber, rather than traditional concrete and steel.
The project represents the continuation of a two-decade partnership between Graycor and Amazon, a collaboration that has yielded more than 30 projects across 15 states.
Situated on a 39-acre site near the Elkhart Municipal Airport, the DII5 facility will serve as a key local fulfillment center, employing more than 200 Amazon and contract workers. The mass timber construction approach offers sustainable benefits and reflects a push toward more environmentally conscious building practices.
“We’re thrilled to have collaborated with Amazon to bring this impactful project to fruition. It will be an important and enduring economic driver for the Elkhart community,” said Timothy Hanifin, President of Graycor.
ZGF led the design of the building, with Atlantic AE serving as the architect of record during construction. Graycor’s project executive John Denbo and onsite general superintendent Joe Ryder provided managerial and construction oversight.
