**Genentech Breaks Ground on $700M Manufacturing Facility in Holly Springs**

Genentech has officially broken ground on its planned $700 million manufacturing facility at 4001 Friendship Road in Holly Springs, North Carolina. The project, announced last spring, marks a major expansion for the biotech company in the Raleigh-Durham region. The new facility is expected to be operational by 2029.

Located approximately 20 miles southwest of Raleigh, the state-of-the-art site will generate more than 400 high-wage manufacturing jobs once complete. During development, an estimated 1,500 construction jobs will also be created.

The Holly Springs facility will support the future production of next-generation obesity medicines for both Genentech and its parent company, Roche. The initial investment has the potential for further expansion depending on future business needs and the U.S. policy landscape.

As part of a larger strategic initiative, Genentech’s project contributes to Roche’s nationwide commitment to invest $50 billion in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics over the next five years. This broader plan includes the construction of three new manufacturing facilities and one new research and development center, as well as upgrades to existing facilities. Genentech currently operates across 28 sites nationwide, encompassing approximately 5 million square feet.

The Holly Springs development represents a significant milestone in Genentech’s long-term investment in innovation, workforce development, and advanced manufacturing capabilities in the United States.
