Sporting goods retailers are facing challenges in selling running shoes, so they are adapting by offering more than just footwear. One example is Scheels, a North Dakota-based chain that plans to build a massive $110 million retail and entertainment destination in Cedar Park. This new location is expected to open in late 2026 and will be located next to the 1.2 million square foot Nebraska Furniture Mart store.
In addition to traditional retail space, the center will also include apartments, a hotel, a convention center and over 250,000 square feet of retail space. The Scheels store itself will cover an impressive 240,000 square feet and employ over 500 people.
The store’s inventory will consist of approximately one million items spread out across various departments such as entertainment attractions and specialty shops. Customers can also enjoy unique features like a giant Ferris wheel standing at an impressive height of 65 feet or visit the saltwater aquarium with over six hundred fish inside it.
Other exciting offerings include arcade games for all ages as well as sports simulators where customers can test their skills before making purchases from the wide selection available at Scheels’ boutiques within the store premises. To satisfy cravings during shopping trips or breaks between activities there is even going to be candy shop with food options available too!
This upcoming Cedar Park location marks Scheels’ thirty-fifth storefront nationwide.
