The city of Detroit is making significant strides in its efforts to eliminate blight and improve communities. The Detroit Construction & Demolition Department has successfully demolished 100 commercial properties since January 2023, with the most recent being the long-vacant Charles Hanneman Elementary School located at 6420 McGraw. This milestone marks a crucial step towards revitalizing the city’s landscape.

Built in 1916, Charles Hanneman served as an active school for over nine decades before closing its doors in 2007 due to financial issues. With this demolition, the stage is set for future development that will benefit the community.

According to Eva Torres from the Detroit Department of Neighborhoods, there are still hundreds of abandoned buildings on their list slated for demolition. These include various types and categories of commercial properties such as schools.

On March 5th, Joe’s Live in Rosemont Illinois will host Connect Industrial Midwest 2024 – an event focused on industrial real estate trends and opportunities within this region. For more information or to register for this event click here .
