The Brooks Development Authority is expanding its reach beyond the former Brooks Air Force Base to meet the growing demand for market-rate developments. Previously focused on providing affordable housing, the authority has shifted its mission to cater to a wider range of tenants from top employers in the region.

In line with this expansion, Brooks has acquired 24 acres outside of its original borders and will be leasing 14 acres to NRP Group for the construction of market-rate rental units. This project is estimated at $78.2 million and will add approximately 350 apartment units to the area.

To further enhance this development, Brooks plans on conducting surveys among current residents in order to determine their preferences for commercial and retail establishments near their community. The new apartments and commercial buildings are set to rise on the northwest side of Loop 410 and Interstate 37 interchange.

This exciting growth initiative by Brooks signals an invitation for more market-rate projects that will contribute positively towards enhancing economic activity in this thriving region.
